BALDWIN HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS MAME!
This spring, Baldwin High School is
proud to present the musical, Mame. The
musical follows eccentric socialite Mame
Dennis, whose life of leisure and luxury
is interrupted when her brother dies and
her young nephew Patrick comes to live
with her. Mame must learn how to be a
parent, and the play traces her attempts
with warmth and humor. Director, Jason
Coll, says the relationship between Mame
and Patrick is at the heart of the story. He
explains, “she saves him and he saves her,
too. He grounds her.”

by Jerome Lawrence
and Robert Edwin Lee
and music and lyrics by
Jerry Herman, whom
many know from Hello,
Dolly!
The play spans
decades, from the
opulence of the
‘20s through the
hardship of The
Great Depression
and beyond. Those changes are depicted
most vividly through Mame’s apartment.
The curtain opens on a lavish apartment
with Art Deco influences. After Mame
loses everything in the Wall Street Crash of
1929, the extravagance of the apartment
is stripped away. Coll explains, “the
apartment itself is a character.”
The play boasts a cast of over 60 and
the production level that audiences have
come to expect from BHS musicals. Coll
has worked with these students since
they were freshmen, so they have a strong
working relationship that shows on the
stage. The production features Morgan
Traud as Mame; Alexa Trimbur as Vera;
Sarah Doran as Agnes Gooch; Liam Coll
as the young Patrick; and Chris Storms as
older Patrick. Performances will be held
April 10th–13th at 7:00pm.
