Briefly Brentwood BOROUGH NEWS Borough Manager’s Message “The future depends on what you do today.” George Zboyovsky, PE -Mahatma Gandhi …The next chapter..… Happy New Year! The beginning of the year is appropriate for my last piece in what was a three part series of this journey. I discussed how we got to where we are and mentioned the many people who helped me, and all of us, along the way. A new year always brings with it new hopes, new dreams, and new goals. For some it is a chance to “start over” with a “clean slate”. For Brentwood, the new year brings with it a glimpse of a brighter future. Projects that have been planned for many years will finally come to fruition. Programs to improve the infrastructure will continue. Planning for future projects will commence. This will be the topic of this article. The always uncertain FUTURE! Brentwood Borough will begin this year, continuing where 2018 ended. Over 8 years of planning for a new Municipal Center and upgrades to the Borough Swimming Pool will finally go from the planning table to construction. I’m simply going to list these and other projects that are planned for 2019/2020 with the anticipated completion dates. The above are a few of the Borough projects that have been planned….and planned…and planned some more, that are now funded and will be constructed. Other projects that are in the works is the Brentwood Trail Project, Walking Directional Signs, and street trees to name a few. Brentwood continues year after year with its commitment to being pro-active rather than re-active on the “unglamorous projects” or the projects that are typically “out of sight, out of mind” but very critical. Every year the Borough spends nearly $1 million in analyzing and repairing defects in the sanitary sewer and stormwater sewer systems. All of these projects demonstrate that Brentwood is, to quote the Simple Minds song “Alive and Kicking”. I have repeatedly stated that the Borough must continue to invest in itself for others to be willing to invest in the Borough. We have already witnessed veracity of this when the Allegheny Health Network choose Brentwood as a location of one of their first Micro-Hospitals. I can also say, but not yet disclose, that some other development is coming soon to Brentwood. (how is that for a teaser?). I am also quite confident that this is only the beginning and that there will be others. I’ll be asking for everyone’s help as we continue setting the course for Brentwood’s future. As listed above, we will once again be going through the strategic planning process. Surveys will be prepared seeking your input on identifying issues as well as way to correct them. You’ll be asked to grade current Borough services and at the same time we will ask for your thoughts on how to improve such services. With limited funding, and grants becoming scarce, the Borough leaders will need our help in prioritizing future projects and setting goals. We’ll be using Objectives and Key Results (OKR) to set the framework for this process. The future starts today and it looking bright. (Dare I quote a Timbuk 3 song?)….” The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades! I gotta wear shades!” PROJECT PROJECT START DATE START DATE COMPLETION DATE George Zboyovsky, P.E.
