A non-profit organization serving
Brentwood residents that are elderly,
individuals temporarily unable to care
for themselves due to surgery, and for
shut-ins that cannot leave the house
without assistance. Volunteers prepare
the meals daily and volunteers drive their
vehicles to deliver the meals. If you have
a few hours a day and are interested in
getting involved the Meals on Wheels
welcomes you. Join the volunteers in your
community to meet and greet residents

In Memory of two highly respected individuals that
gave so much to our community!
Xavier Franz, passed away on February 2, 2016, a life-long
Brentwood resident. Xavier was the brother of the late Geraldine
(Bill) Sullivan. Xavier devoted countless hours and energy to several
community groups, as well as served as an Usher at St. Sylvester
Church for more than 50 years. Xavier, “X” as known by his friends,
was a founding member of the Historical Society and served on
this committee for many years. Xavier and his sister Gerry were
instrumental in the monumental task of collecting research, planning and commitment
to establish the World War II Memorial which is located on the grounds of the John F.
Slater Funeral Home, Inc. Xavier was unofficially considered a historian of the Borough
along with his sister Gerry. To his surprise, during the Brentwood Centennial Banquet
held on November 6, 2015, Xavier was officially recognized as the “Borough Historian”
and commended for his years of dedication and knowledge to the Borough. Xavier and
his sister Gerry, members of the 4th of July Committee for many years, volunteered their
expertise and time to the Borough for the residents and visitors to celebrate and enjoy
Independence Day. Xavier, through his lifetime of collecting memorabilia, compiled his
8 millimeter films into a DVD specific of the 4th of July parades, going back in time to
1940. Xavier insisted on the DVD being available during the Centennial Banquet; he was
so proud to share these historic memories of Brentwood parades of years gone by. It
is with admiration and gratitude that we remember Mr. ”X“ for his many contributions
to the Borough. In 2005, Xavier and Gerry were named “Grand Marshals” of the 4th of
July parade for that year. As time goes on, Xavier will be remembered for his significant
contribution to the Borough.
Gary C. Cox, a Brentwood resident, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016,
longtime partner of Nancy Dyson and her daughters, Dawn (Jeff, Sheri (Robert) and
Tracy (Ken); grandfather of Jimmy and Jeremy. Gary was a life member of the Brentwood
EMS, recently retired from Jefferson Regional Medical Center, an instructor for the
American Heart Association for CPR, ACLS and PALS. Gary will be missed by many in the
community, especially the EMS members and first responders, BVFC and Brentwood
Police.
