If you’ ve been to the grocery store lately, you’ ve probably noticed two unmistakable signs that summer is winding down: pumpkin spice is already on the shelves, and somehow a Spirit Halloween store has magically appeared overnight. While the calendar may still say summer, fall is definitely waiting in the wings.
Before we trade lawn chairs for hoodies and football Saturdays,( We Are!) there’ s still plenty happening right here in Brentwood.
Our community calendar remains packed with opportunities to get out, have some fun, and support our local businesses and organizations. ' Taking It To The Streets ' returns on Saturday, August 22, and we’ ll also make up our rain-canceled July event on Saturday, September 19. Don’ t forget about Community Day, youth sports, school activities, and the many events hosted by our local churches, civic organizations, and nonprofits. These events are what make Brentwood more than just a place to live, they make it a community.
Behind the scenes, Borough staff continue working on projects that will benefit Brentwood for years to come. Construction on the DeWalt Avenue Streetscape Project is expected to begin this fall, improving one of our most important business corridors with safer pedestrian access and an attractive streetscape for businesses. We’ re also moving forward with improvements to Brentwood Park Field No. 4, additional ADA accessibility projects, traffic safety enhancements around our schools, and a comprehensive evaluation of the Borough’ s public stairways and pathways. This study will provide a long-term road-map for repairing and preserving these unique connections that have linked our neighborhoods for generations.

Borough Council is establishing a new Brentwood 4th of July Celebration Committee to help preserve and strengthen one of our community’ s most cherished traditions. While our Independence Day celebration has been enjoyed for generations, its future depends on residents who are willing to step forward and lend a hand. The reality is simple: community traditions don’ t continue by themselves. They continue because neighbors volunteer, businesses sponsor, and people decide they’ re willing to give back.
Whether you enjoy organizing events, fundraising, marketing, decorating, helping behind the scenes, or simply volunteering where needed, we’ d love to have you involved. Even a few hours of your time can make a tremendous difference. If you’ ve ever stood along Brownsville Road watching the parade, or enjoyed the festivities afterward, now is your chance to help ensure future generations can create those same memories.
As summer comes to a close, please remember that students will soon be heading back to school. Slow down in school zones, watch for children at crosswalks, and eliminate distractions while driving. A few extra seconds of patience can make all the difference.
