Michael Best, current owner of the funeral home, said that while the funeral industry has evolved over the years, dedication to the families r emains the lynchpin of the business and its continued success. “The business has changed through the years. There are some trends that come and go. Cremations are more common today than ever before and families are doing shorter funerals, for example” he said. “Not too long ago, there used to be two viewing days and a funeral day. Today, it’s an almost one- day process. Cieslak & Tatko can provide virtually any request that a family presents and is a full-service funeral home, providing burial, cremation, monuments and administrative services to families in need. Their dedication to the community includes help with veterans and first responder benefits for the men and women who serve the most, as well as being a founding member and supporter for all 35 years of the Firecracker 5K race. The small, family business also provides free snow cones to residents during the annual Fourth of July parade and belongs to both Carrick and Baldwin, Brentwood, Whitehall business networking groups. “When I took over in 2014, it was my hope and goal to continue the long line of professionalism and service that my predecessors provided to the community,” Best said. “Prior to myself, Edward & Donna Tatko was here. Before him, it was Maura Cieslak, and she took over from her husband, John Ceislak. There has been a continuity of excellence here throughout the years and I wish to keep that going, to continue the small, family-owned, funeral tradition of providing great service and a personal touch to serving our families.” Best is a licensed funeral director and embalmer certified by the Pennsylvania and West Virginia State Boards of Funeral Directors and has been employed with Cieslak & Tatko Funeral Home since February 2013, He is a native of Knox, Pennsylvania and graduated from John A.
