BRENTWOOD HIGH FOOTBALL B rentwood High School alumnus and lifelong Brentwood resident, Richard Boyd, Class of 1957, recently released a book that he wrote and published. Rich chronicles the eighty-four history of Brentwood High School football (1932-2016). The title “Hail, Hail to Brentwood High” is derived from the first stanza of the school ‘Fight Song.’ The books’ cover proudly pictures the eight former players who performed on Sundays in the professional ranks. Rich lays the groundwork for Player Profiles and Memorable Games by describing how the athletic teams might have been named the ‘Hilltoppers.’ He traces the transformation of the stadium from the rugged ‘bowl’ to the current synthetic turf. The thirteen (13) year competitive relationship with neighbors Carrick and Baldwin introduces the reader to the Triadic Conference. The five (5) winningest head coaches are recognized, ranked and profiled for fans to argue over. Rich does not flood the reader with mountains of statistics, but instead, he uses photographs to hold reader attention. Readers are guided through the football program’s infancy, dark ages (1952-1956), renaissance and finally stability. 52 Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall The book is on sale for $20. at the Brentwood Library and through Rich Boyd via e-mail at [email protected].
