4TH ANNUAL SCHEUERMANN’ S DISEASE FUNDRAISER
The Scheuermann’ s Disease Fund will hold its 4th Annual Fundraiser on Sunday Oct. 15, from 12:30- 4 p. m. at the Alpine Club. Tickets are $ 10 / person and kids under 12 are free.
The event will include a buffet, drinks, cash bar, a display explaining the origin, diagnosis and forms of treatment for Scheuermann’ s Disease, face painting, caricature artist, photo booth, silent auction of sports memorabilia, Chinese auction, 50 / 50, kids corner and shaved ice truck.

Scheuermann’ s Disease( also known as juvenile kyphosis) is characterized by uneven growth in the vertebrae, causing them to form a wedge-shape. Typical spines have natural curves of 20 to 40 degrees. People with steeper curves— from 40 to 45 degrees— are said to suffer from kyphosis. Scheuermann’ s Disease takes kyphosis to the extreme: sufferers have spinal curvatures of up to 75 degrees.

EMMAUS HOLDING SPIRIT RUN 5K
On October 15, Emmaus will host its fourth annual Spirit Run, a Halloween costume-themed chipped 5K and 1-mile fun walk to benefit the Emmaus Community of Pittsburgh and its mission of providing homes and support for people with intellectual disabilities. All skill and fitness levels are welcome. The Spirit Run is an out-and-back course along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, followed by an awards ceremony, refreshments and a familyfriendly celebration in the South Shore Riverfront Park at South Side Works. BALDWIN, BRENTWOOD AND WHITEHALL AMONG LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES RECEIVING BANNER COMMUNITY DESIGNATION
County officials, including members of County Council and County Manager William D. McKain, CPA, today announced that 51 municipalities have been designated as 2017 Banner Communities. The program, sponsored by the Allegheny League of Municipalities in cooperation with the county, recognizes those communities committed to professional development, prudent fiscal management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders. This is the fifth year of the program.
“ Local government is considered by many to be the most important form of government because of its direct impact on the daily lives of residents. The job of being a local government officials, whether elected or appointed, has become an increasingly complex occupation,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.“ The Banner Community Program designation is a public recognition of the efforts that these government officials take on behalf of its residents and businesses each day. I congratulate the officials who represent these communities, and thank them, for the example they set in our county.”
Sixteen municipalities have been part of the Banner Community Program since its inception in 2012. Those communities include Collier, Cranberry Township( Butler County), Etna, Hampton, Indiana, Leetsdale, McCandless, North Fayette, Ohio,
