Greetings to all as we enter into a wonderful Fall Season. I trust and
hope that you and your family enjoyed a most wonderful Summer
Season.
I am pleased to report the commencement of a new initiative
forged between myself, Police Chief Adam Zeppuhar and our
Building Inspector Ralph Costa. As an outgrowth of our parking
supply and demand efforts along certain streets in the northern
portion of Brentwood, this effort primarily relies on walking and
visual inspection. Essentially, the chief, a patrolman and building
inspector and myself have been walking streets looking for any
negative conditions which impacts public safety. We look for
things such as unsafe sidewalks, failing retaining walls, trash and
overgrown weeds. We have been compiling a list of infractions and
mailing out notices to property owners. Should not the conditions
be addressed we will take them to the local magistrate to press for
corrective action. We are also providing a visible presence with our
police chief, patrolman and building inspector and of course the
Mayor.
While the program has initially been focused on Pyramid,
Brentwood Ave., Clermont, Glendale and Lachman Way, we have
begun to look at other areas in the Borough. Some of these efforts
involve traffic control, such as, stop signs, but also parking related
matters too.
As it relates to parking, my office and the Police Chief have
completed our study of parking supply and demand in the
above areas of Pyramid, Brentwood, Glendale, Clermont, Elroy
and Lachman Way. This effort included physical inspection and
collection of data as well as meetings with area residents. Our next
step will be to provide a formal recommendation to Brentwood
52 Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall
Council for their consideration. We had met with the Zoning and
Ordinance Committee in January whereby they had decided to
take the parking initiative Borough wide. However, based upon
community feedback I informed the committee that we will go
back to my original plan of focusing on a much smaller and more
affected subsection of the community.
Again, as we enter Autumn with Summer behind us that leaves
behind a tremendous Brentwood Athletic Association Youth
Baseball Season here in Brentwood. While we had to combat
some of the worst baseball related weather in recent memory,
those games that were played made for a memorable season. This
season concluded with Tournament Travel Baseball. I was fortunate
enough to manage the Brentwood 12 and under tournament
team. We had tournaments in Peters Township, Castle Shannon
and Brentwood. Our boys did well by winning the Castle Shannon
Tournament! But just as important was the feedback that I received
from opposing teams and communities. We were universally
commended for the conduct and sportsmanship of not only our
players but our fans as well. Our players, parents and fans were
most respectful and polite and did our community proud! It was a
tremendous ending to a great season in so many ways.
I am now excited that the Brentwood Dukes Youth Football Season
in Brentwood began August 1st with record numbers of players. I
expect that again our players, parents and fans will demonstrate
an extraordinary level of sportsmanship and politeness.
We are Brentwood proud!
