Dr . Rachel Penney , owner of Penney Eye Care , took over Optical Images in December 2020 . The new location at 4706 Library Road , is helping Bethel Park residents with all their eye care needs . The records from the former business have been transferred , making it seamless for Dr . Penney to assist patients of Optical Images , as well as new patients . This is the second location for Penney Eye Care — the first practice is located in McKeesport , and has been there for almost six years now .
Dr . Penney wants you to know that she and her team will “ listen and address your needs regarding eye care .” In her words , “ What sets us apart is that the doctors really listen to what is bringing in the patient , and aim to address their specific concerns and issues . We are not rushing through exams , and we want patients to leave feeling we fixed any problems they are having . And we really enjoy seeing patients each year , getting to know them , letting them get to know us .”
Raised in Canada , Dr . Penney graduated Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago . She then worked in
private practice in Chicago for two years , focusing on contact lens patients . She later moved to Elkins , WV where she spent two years working at a private practice that specialized in ocular disease treatment and management , before moving to Pittsburgh with her husband and two sons .
Dr . Erin Anderson joined the practice in the spring of 2021 . She was born in Kane , PA , and earned her undergraduate degree at Slippery Rock University . She graduated from optometry school at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and then spent four years in Mississippi in private practice . Dr . Anderson spent the last 3 + years at an ophthalmology practice in McMurray managing surgical post ops , glaucoma , diabetes , macular degeneration , etc . She is currently living in Pleasant Hills with her husband and 3-year-old son .
Dr . Anderson says , “ Yearly eye exams are important not only to maintain clear vision , but also to detect many underlying health issues that need addressed . During the pandemic many people neglected their routine eye care and it ’ s important to get back on track regarding your health .”

Additional offerings include contacts , diabetic exams , pre-and post-operative care for patients who have LASIK , PRK , and cataract surgery , as well as care for eye conditions including lazy eye , macular degeneration , and dry eye syndrome . Care is also offered for eye diseases including glaucoma , eye infections and diabetic retinopathy .
