Fresher

The Artisan Pizza
Than Any Pizza You’ve Ever Had
W
hat’s fresher than straight, out-of-the-oven pizza? Straightout-of-the-oven pizza that comes out of your own oven. That’s
the concept behind Artisan Pizza Co. in Bethel Park, where
owner Bob Himler decided that the Pittsburgh pizza market was ready
for a concept that, until now, has been more of a West Coast thing.
“We’re more of a fresh-prepared retail food store that happens to
specialize in pizza,” Himler said. And, in fact, he’s right.
You won’t find an oven in Artisan Pizza Co.’s storefront at Norman
Centre, but you will find some of the freshest ingredients outside of the
Strip District all ready to be assembled into your ideal pizza or salad.
The process for ordering is the same as what you’re used to – just call
Artisan Pizza Co. and place an order for pick up. After that, head on
over, pick up your custom-made pizza and pop it into your home oven
when you get back home.
For example, the Caramelized Onion & Sausage, which unites its
namesake ingredients with mozzarella, aged parmesan, fresh basil,
garlic and red sauce, is just one of the many unique pies that you can
bring home to your family.
“For some reason, people think it takes a long time to bake a pizza,
but it really only takes 12 minutes in your home oven,” Himler said.
“You can order ahead, put your pizza or pizzas in the refrigerator and
then bake them when your family is ready for dinner. You’re not waiting
for a delivery person, and the time of delivery is virtually the same as
ordering from us, picking it up and baking it – only you’ll have a fresher
pizza, straight from your oven.”
Artisan Pizza Co. is also dedicated to all-natural ingredients, and
offers a gluten-free crust available in a 10-inch size.
“We’re committed to the quality of our product,” Himler said. “We
only use unbleached and non-bromated flour in our fresh-made
dough. Our meats contain no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.
Our cheeses have no added hormones. Our sauces and dressings have
no MSG or high-fructose corn syrup. In addition to our traditional

dough, we have one of the few stone-ground, whole wheat options that
I know of in the region for our customers who want a true, whole wheat
experience. It’s a fresher and healthier pizza, overall.”
Because of Artisan Pizza Co.’s “take-and-bake” style, their pizzas are
perfectly suited for fundraisers and catering as well, and Artisan Pizza
Co. is well-known for helping organizations raise money for their causes.
“We give $4 back on every large pizza we sell for our fundraisers,”
Himler said. “That’s a full 24- to 26-percent of gross sales going back to
the organization.” And for catering, if you order 15 pizzas from a regular
pizza shop, your guests all arrive at different times, and many of them
might be getting a slice of pizza that’s been sitting around for a while.
With ours, we can cook in real time, as the party progresses, so the
pizza’s never cold and never old.”
Another package Artisan Pizza Co. offers is the Make-Me-Mine Kit,
a nod to good, old-fashioned family night, where you can order a
pizza and have Artisan Pizza Co. individually package all the necessary
ingredients together for you. You pick it up, take it home, and make a
healthy, fresh pizza at home with the kids for dinner. Make-Me-Mine
Kits combine three fresh dough rounds, your choice of sauce, and three
toppings for each pizza in one convenient package.
