Youth Volunteers of the Year Bethel Park High School sophomores Grace Brueggman, Macy Hall and Natalie LaLama have been devoting much of their free time for the past four years to identifying and corresponding with American servicemen and women who are stationed overseas. They send the military troops care packages to let them know they are appreciated and not forgotten. For their hard work and commitment to this project, they have received the Community Awards for Service Excellence Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. The girls began their endeavor as students at Independence Middle School, where they spent their lunchtime in the room of Jennifer Makel, social studies teacher, writing letters of encouragement and support to American soldiers. They also conducted school-wide collection drives to gather supplies and comfort items to send to the soldiers on a regular basis.
