Windows and Doors( Part 1 of a Four-Part Series)

After decades of experience in the home improvement industry, I have learned a lot about windows and doors that I would like to share with you. Hopefully this will help when the time comes to replace the windows or doors in your home.
Since good windows are designed to last many years, many homeowners will only replace the windows once or twice in their lives. This is good news since it can be a major investment; however, it can also make it very hard to know where to start when shopping for new windows or entry doors. It can even be hard to know if you even need new windows or doors!
Oftentimes it is obvious that it’ s time to replace something in your home. If you see rotten wood, have old single-pane windows, windows with metal frames, or you can see damage to a window or door( such as broken locks or other issues that prevent proper functioning), it is time for replacement. Less-obvious signs can include condensation between the panes of glass on a double- or triple-pane window, which typically indicates a seal failure; higher-than-expected energy bills; cold and drafty rooms during the winter; or an air conditioner that struggles to keep up during the summer months.
Replacing faulty, failing or outdated windows and doors can yield many important benefits. Installing more energy-efficient products can save significant money, while also being a responsible choice for the environment. Modern windows and doors are made using materials that either greatly reduce or eliminate the need for expensive maintenance like painting. Just as important, this is an upgrade that can improve the appearance and value of your home.
If you’ re not sure about whether you need new windows or doors, contact a reputable company to take a look at your home and offer advice.
