NAMS STUDENTS WIN FIRST
PLACE IN GINGERBREAD CONTEST
N
eil Armstrong Middle School Functional Skills students are at it
again--creating beautiful gingerbread houses for the PPG Place
Holiday Display, which earned them First Place in a regional
competition!
Each year the students enter their gingerbread houses into this contest which
is held Downtown in the PPG Place Wintergarden, featuring entries from students
from the Pittsburgh area. This year, they were rewarded for their hard work with a
First Place ribbon for one of their “Disney Christmas”-themed houses.
Both fifth and sixth grade students worked together to create these beautiful
structures. By working together to reach a common goal, the students learned
skills such as brainstorming, communication, decision making, cooperation and
teamwork.
Congratulations on a great job!

T
wo Bethel Park Elementary students were recently recognized for their
efforts in two contests.
Franklin Third Grader Mia Hogue was selected as a winner in the Allegheny
County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association’s annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
Mia was presented with her award in November at the Oakmont Volunteer Fire
Department.
Washington Elementary School Third Grader Ava Friday was selected as one of
10 Runners- Up in the Art and

sponsored by Scholastic Books.
Ava’s invention was the “Get

your feeling and it gives you
your outfit and food. And if you
don’t like what you got, you can
put in your feeling again.”
For her efforts, she was able to
choose
her prize from among six
