Last harvest leaves an almond family legacy

THE Cavallaro family have been involved with the Australian almond industry for five decades . Father Larry was the deputy chairman of the Almond Co-operative and also Managing Director in the mid 80s . He oversaw its move from Edwardstown to Berri . Larry ’ s five sons all helped on the family ’ s orchards in Angle Vale and Peter , Domenic and David have followed in their father ’ s footsteps , by making their own important contributions to the almond industry . Today we reflect on the Cavallaro time at their Adelaide Plains family orchard . The urban sprawl continues to reduce to one of the industry ’ s earliest growing districts and with mixed emotions this pioneering family have just completed their last harvest . Kellie Hollingworth caught up with the Cavallaro clan on site recently .
