THERE ' S a new incentive for almond growers to become Bee Friendly Farming certified producers , with grants of up to $ 10,000 available to fund the planting of native pollinator-friendly plants . Applications are now open in the Bee Friendly Farming program ’ s tree grants initiative . Farmers and land managers can apply for grants of between $ 1000 and $ 10,000 – with $ 1 for each tree planted under the program administered by the Wheen Bee Foundation . Growers need to be Bee Friendly Farming certified – or have a Bee Friendly Farming certification application lodged and pending approval by the grant deadline of 21 August 2022 . The program aims to create new habitat and food sources for bees and other pollinators , which in turn helps growers by providing healthier and more divers pollinator colonies around the orchard , enhancing crop pollination outcomes . The ABA ' s ACE Orchard at Loxton recently received a grant that enabled the planting of new native plants in June ( pictured above ). In the first year of the grant program last year , 80 hectares of pollinator habitat was created across four states . Applications for the grants close at 5pm AEST on 21 August 2022 .
