Canberra gets a Taste of the Basin
THE produce grown in the Murray Darling Basin was showcased at Parliament House in November . The event called Taste of the Basin coincided with the Water Amendment ( Restoring our Rivers ) Bill being debated in the Senate . Hundreds of people , including politicians , their staff and journalists attended the event , which was organised by Coalition MPs . Two hundred heart shaped tins filled with roasted almonds were snapped up by attendees . The Almond Board of Australia also showcased the different ways that almonds are sold in the supermarket . Confectionery , breakfast cereal , almond milk , almond butter , cake mix , muesli bars , snack tubs and health food bars were on display and generated many conversations . It was also an opportunity to highlight the benefits of eating a handful of almonds daily , with fact sheets promoting heart , cognitive and gut health messages handed out . Other products on display included stonefruit , wine , dried fruit , rice , farmed Murray Cod , pecans , citrus , avocados and much more .
