Weekend Sunrise showcases almond blossom season

THE spectacle of almond blossom season was showcased on national television last month . Weekend Sunrise weather presenter James Tobin visited Robinvale on August 17 . The coverage coincided with the Mallee Almond Blossom Festival which was held the following day . The six weather segments provided a great opportunity to showcase Robinvale , the community and the almond industry :
• Aroona Farms operations manager Luke Benham provided an insight into almond growing .
• Pollination coordinator Trevor Monson and Wheen Bee Foundation CEO Fiona Chambers discussed the importance of bees .
• Nutritionist Simone Austin spoke about the health benefits of almonds while making a smoothie using the Robinvale and District Health Services smoothie bike , which was ridden by ABA CEO Tim Jackson .
• The Robinvale Almond Blossom Festival Committee showcased some of the treats that were being made for their bake off and promoted their event .
• Members of the Robinvale Art Group showed of their almond blossom painting skills .
• Robinvale musician Jett Charman performed a song he ’ d written about almond blossom .

Snackex Trade Fair
THE Australian almond industry participated in the Snackex Trade Fair for the first time this year . Snackex , a biennial event organised by the European Snack Association , is the only major trade exhibition dedicated exclusively to savory snacks and nuts . Snackex took place in Stockholm from June 19 to 20 , featuring over 180 exhibitors from around the world , covering all stages of the demand and supply chain .
