Despite the ongoing challenges , the shipments for 2021-22 of Australian almonds was a record for the industry , with China being our major importer . Mr Ebbage said the significant drivers of Australian almond consumption includes health , versatility and increasing industry sustainability practices . Almonds remained the most frequently used tree nut ingredient in new products launched during 2021-22 , according to Innova Market Insights . The Australian almond industry is now setting its sights on Gen Y and Gen Z . It has become increasingly clear that younger consumers want to know how their food is being produced and want to know their food is environmentally conscious . The rise of plant food will also be a major advantage to the industry with consumers gravitating towards plant milk alternatives in particular . Mr Ebbage said after a significant break due to Covid-19 , the Almond Board team is invested in getting back on the world stage by attending trade shows and marketing opportunities . The ABA also showcased its new domestic ‘ Live the Almond Life ’ campaign aimed at engaging a younger generation of nut lovers .
