• Dr Philippe Rolshausen and his team at UC Riverside , California , leaders in plant protection in Californian tree crops who are developing practical methods of controlling diseases with probiotics .
The travel enabled IDM team members to showcase almond disease research outcomes of AL16005 and will facilitate the adaptation of current research from overseas into future laboratory and field trials as part of AL2002 . The study tour facilitated knowledge transfer between Australian and University of California almond researchers , addressing major knowledge gaps in the biology and control of the hull rot organism along with causes of Monterey
decline and Prunus replant disease ( PRD ). It allowed access to new methodologies for managing hull rot , trunk disease , and new and emerging diseases , as well as the opportunity to be involved in discussions around a new international research program on diseases of almond . The tour provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaborations with scientists from the University of California , and other international researchers , that are essential for future Australian almond research . The outcomes of this visit will improve the production and quality of Australian almonds . New management strategies based on this travel will be devised to reduce disease development in Australian almond orchards . Growers will use this information to better manage crops during disease conducive seasons .
