Dining in the blossom
ONE hundred and sixty people enjoyed a unique dining experience at Outback Almonds in August . The orchard on the Darling River in south west New South Wales , hosted Dining in the Blossom on August 11-12 . Festoon and fairy lights were strung through a section of the orchard , giving guests the opportunity to wander through the blossom and take photos . While the first and second courses were served outdoors , diners then moved into the empty almond storage shed for the remaining portion of the dinner . In past years the dining experience has been held annually on one night in August , but organiser Tegan Douglas said interest in the event had grown , prompting the family to hold the dinner on two consecutive evenings in 2023 . The five-course meal was accompanied by wines and spirits from local businesses . A musician was also on hand to provide entertainment . While many of the diners travelled to the property from Mildura and Wentworth by bus , Outback Almonds also offers accommodation .

It has three canvas bell tents for glamping , a three-bedroom cottage , as well as off-grid caravan and camping sites . Sholto and Julie Douglas , along with their children , planted 3,000 almond trees in 1998 .
The property has expanded since then to 9,000 trees . Some of original trees will be replanted next year . Outback Almonds will hold Dining in the Blossom on August 9-10 in 2024 .
