The Almond Board of Australia ’ s ACE Orchard was recently a hive of activity when harvest time kicked off . Orchard Manager Anthony Wachtel and Assistant Orchard Manager Melissa Macfarlane ( pictured ) led their team of workers to harvest this season ’ s crop .

RESEARCHERS GALORE
The ACE Orchard is home to a number of exciting research trials . Recently SARDI ’ s Tim Pitt and his fellow colleagues were out at the Loxton-based orchard performing tasks as part of the research trials . The SARDI team were collecting data for the ‘ Optimising almond production systems ’ ( AL21001 ) trial , which is looking at improving efficiency of production through transition to higher density orchard systems . An extensive trial update will be provided in the next edition of In A Nutshell .

The Almond Board of Australia ’ s budwood program has been in operation over the summer months . A hard-working team of budwood cutters under the guidance of ABA Assistant Orchard Manager Melissa MacFarlane were busy cutting the material across three Riverland sites to supply to nurseries .
