Stories of refugee chidren

Anas is a child from Syria but he lived in Iraq with his family for the past three years. He suffers from epilepsy and he embarked to Europe because there he couldn't receive proper treatment for his illness. Anas’ aunt, who lives in northern Europe, sent the money for his trip.

Initially he travelled with some neighbors but when they arrived in Greece they left him and he continued the journey alone. During it he met some new friends but the journey was very difficult and full of risks, especially after the terrorism attacks in Paris.

When he reached his destination he was very worried about his mum, who was still in Iraq.

Ten-year-old Liliane* and her family were at home in Aleppo when a bomb hit their building.

She lost a kidney, and was brought to Lebanon for safety, but she believed that the rest of her family had died.

When Liliane’s mother learned that two of her children had survived the bombing, she went back into Syria to get them and bring them with her to safety in Lebanon.

But the strenuous trip put her back in the hospital. She is still being treated there.

While she recovers, Liliane and her brother are being cared for at an SOS Children's Villages interim care centre in Lebanon.

Liliane says: “I like SOS and want to stay here until mom is treated and healthy."

About dreams for the future, she says she wants to become an interior designer. And she wants to go back to Syria. “I miss it,” she says.

No one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land.
