Combining Speed Friending with a Mentor-Mentee Program for Future Nurses

By Ruth Beyene, Courtney Cohen, and Marisa Astiz-Martinez
Starting nursing school is a challenging transition, and new students often face intense stress and anxiety as they adjust. Studies show that nursing students have an average stress score of 3.70 on a 5-point scale, which highlights how common and overwhelming these feelings can be( Zheng et al., 2022). Although there is substantial research on the shift from nursing school to practice, less attention has been given to the initial leap into nursing programs. Many students feel unsupported during this critical time( McDonald et al., 2018).

By providing mentorship and emotional support, this program not only helps students build professional
