EDITORIAL
Hi , NSNA members !
My name is Lauren Tickner , and I am the NSNA elected Imprint Editor for the 2024-2025 academic year . I am so proud and excited to share the first Imprint issue of this year . Through collaboration with a wonderful team and amongst our NSNA members , we can explore “ Beyond the Books : What it Takes to be a Nursing Student .” After reading this issue , I hope you feel excited to take on this school year with confidence as you immerse yourself in clinicals and coursework . Remember to celebrate your accomplishments and be proud of the progress you have made .
As Imprint Editor , my goal for the magazine is to foster a community for student nurses , highlighting events happening on state , local , and national levels . By emphasizing this community , we can share stories and helpful reflections that help us remember our “ why .” After reading these articles from peers and fellow nursing students in our community , I hope you feel inspired to submit an article in the upcoming Imprint issues . We would love to hear from you !
In this issue , get to know the NSNA Board of Directors and Nominating and Elections Committee as well as the Imprint Reporters . You can find out a little bit more about what the NSNA Board members are working on this year and their goals this year for their respective committees . Additionally , we are excited to share the approved and modernized NSNA Strategic Plan for 2024-2029 , which was the product of hard work and collaboration from the 2023-2024 Board , the current Board , and the NSNA staff .
I hope you take the time to read about the 3M Littmann Stethoscope Leadership Grant recipient , Shepherd University : “ Addressing the Nursing Shortage ,” and the Marilyn Bagwell Leadership Development Grant recipient : Neumann University : “ Fostering Professional Identity and Peer-to-Peer Mentoring .” Both articles give a thoughtful reflection honoring two universities that were awarded scholarship grants on behalf of the FNSNA . We are so proud of these students and their achievements and are excited to read about how these scholarships have influenced them during nursing school and as they transition into the nursing profession .
Don ’ t miss the study tips for success submitted by your fellow NSNA members ! Students recall the importance of self-care before exams and effective study methods that help them to feel confident in their classes . My personal favorites are active recall , group work , and note review . Thank you for your submissions !
At some point in their education and career , all nurses must face medication dosage calculations . I know it can be a daunting topic and can be scary when you are a nursing student studying this topic for the first time — but don ’ t worry ! We have an informative article for you , “ Unlocking the Mysteries of Medication Dosage : A Nursing Student ’ s Guide ” by Latoya Smith . This article will help you navigate the equations and provide tips for confidence and success as you calculate . You got it !
And finally , keep an eye out for our membership benefits and scholarship opportunities . We have some amazing resources available to our NSNA members that are highlighted throughout this issue . We hope you enjoy the first Imprint publication of this school year . If you have any suggestions or questions , please feel free to contact me directly at Imprint @ nsna . org .
