As a novice PNP , joining your professional organization , such as the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners ( NAPNAP ), and participating at the national and chapter levels will offer you wonderful opportunities to network with peers , make friends , access continuing education , enhance your career , and promote pediatric healthcare advocacy .
As you become more comfortable and knowledgeable in your clinical skills , you will be ready to pursue additional local and national professional development opportunities . Now that you are the expert , start to submit abstracts to speak to your colleagues about your area of clinical expertise at local and national conferences . Join your hospital ’ s advanced practice committees and serve as a clinical preceptor and a mentor to new nurse practitioners .
Start your own research project , apply to present your outcomes as a poster presentation at a local or national conference , and write a manuscript to submit for journal publication . Share and celebrate your hard work . Join or start quality improvement projects . Become a member of one of NAPNAP ’ s many special interest groups ( SIGs ). When an opportunity arises , put your name in the hat to serve as a chapter or SIG leader . These leadership skills will be invaluable to you . Be a guest or host on a podcast . Be involved and do not be afraid to be vulnerable . Be brave . Remember , you do not need to be perfect .
