Hawai ’ i Student Nurses ’ Association 10th Annual Conference : “ Compassion Beyond Duty ”
The Hawai ’ i Student Nurses ’ Association hosted its 10th annual conference on October 28 , 2023 , at the Chaminade University of Honolulu . The theme of the conference was Compassion Beyond Duty . The focus was to educate the students what it means to push past the title of a “ nurse ,” and identify their weaknesses and strengths to provide ‘ above and beyond ’ care to their patients as future healthcare workers . The keynote speaker was Christine Griffin , PhD , RN , NPD-BC who is the Director of Caring Science at The Queen ’ s Medical Center . Dr . Griffin provides leadership over the development and implementation of the Patient Care Services Professional Practice Model , which is based on the Theory of Human Caring . The objective of this model is the creation of a caring and healing environment to support the patient experience , as well as supporting efforts and organizational strategies that enhance the physical , mental , emotional and spiritual health of the nurses at the medical center . The conference hosted several speakers and various breakout sessions educating on multiple areas of nursing and was highly informative . This conference explored the components of developing connections with patients while also protecting the mental health of the nurse . The conference was well attended , and not only were students able to leave the conference with a new perspective , but they were also able to network with other nurses and nursing students . The Hawai ’ i Student Nurses ’ Association was excited about this opportunity to host this conference and furthering the development of the next generation of nurses !
