imprinted on us after experiences like these . The common smells of a certain hairspray , or the feeling of a cool spring breeze rustling through your hair , transport every single one of us to that specific person that had such an effect on us . We hear their laugh in the wind , our united cheering with a simple spritz of a spray , or the soft weight of their hand on our arm when the sun ’ s warmth graces our skin .
These moments of remembrance , nostalgia , and reflection are the gifts that others have given to us . It is not what we did for them , but what they did for us and how they changed us that make these ordinary moments nothing short of remarkable . It is in the moments that we were not expecting , or quite ready for , that are the greatest gifts .
When I thought I knew what I wanted , my mom gave me the greatest gift that I was neither expecting , nor what I was wanting . She gave me something that my very being needed and a piece of my spirit that I never knew was missing . When I look back at this experience , I know that it was a piece of my mom that was placed in my spirit . A piece of her passions , excitement , and memory were placed within me and now lives on inside of me forever . This was her eternal gift to me : a changed heart and a newfound understanding through the shared human experience of being a nurse . n
