Call for Resolutions for the NSNA House of Delegates
The National Student Nurses ’ Association ( NSNA ) is calling for resolutions to be submitted for consideration by the NSNA House of Delegates . This is your opportunity to make your voice heard and propose important policies and actions that will shape the future of nursing .
A resolution is a written statement that , when adopted by the House of Delegates , becomes the basis for the policies and actions of the NSNA . Resolutions address matters of national importance to the NSNA , its members , and the nursing profession . They should focus on one topic or issue , be nationally relevant , and align with the NSNA ’ s mission and bylaws .
NSNA constituent state associations , NSNA constituent school chapters , NSNA Board of Directors , and NSNA Committees are eligible to submit one resolution each . Individual NSNA members are not permitted to submit resolutions . Only NSNA student members can be authors of a resolution , with faculty and advisors providing guidance but not actively participating in the decision-making or writing process .
There are four different types of resolutions : “ Resolutions of Substance ” express opinions and propose future actions , “ Reaffirmation Resolutions ” restate previously taken positions , “ Courtesy Resolutions ” recognize contributions made to the NSNA , and “ Emergency Resolutions ” address topics that arise after the submission deadline .
To submit a resolution , follow these steps :
1 . Choose the Topic , Position , and Actions : Identify your desired topic , the position you want to take , and the actions to be carried out by the NSNA .
2 . Document the Need : Provide a comprehensive rationale for your resolution , supported by credible sources and documentation .
3 . Write the Resolution : Compose your resolution , making use of “ Whereas ” clauses to summarize the reasons and rationale for your position and Resolved ” clauses to outline the desired position and actions .
4 . Abstracts : Prepare an abstract that concisely summarizes your resolution .
5 . Review , Proof , and Seek Organizational Approval : Review and proofread your resolution carefully , seeking organizational approval as needed before submission .
6 . Submit the Resolution : Send your resolution to the NSNA by the deadline of January 15 , 2024 , at 5:00 PM ET , ensuring it complies with all guidelines and requirements .
After submission , the resolution will go through a review process , including review by the NSNA Board of Directors and resolution hearings . This ensures careful consideration and allows for open discussions before voting takes place .
Submitting a resolution is your chance to contribute to the development of nursing policies and actions . It allows you to advocate for change and address issues of importance to the NSNA and the nursing profession . Join us in shaping the future of nursing by submitting your resolution today .
