Janelle Rafanan Western Area Representative 2022-2023 Nominating and Elections Committee NECwest @ nsnainc . org

Hello fellow NSNA members ! My name is Janelle Rafanan , and I am the Nominating and Elections Committee Western Area Representative . It was great to meet so many of you amazing individuals in Virginia Beach at the NSNA MidYear Conference . I look forward to seeing your faces again during this year ’ s Annual Convention !

This year , the 71st Annual Convention will be held from April 12-16 , in Nashville , Tennessee . The theme is Reflection : A Catalyst for Change ! To prepare , make sure to visit www . nsnaconvention . org to find more information about our keynote speakers , Exhibit Hall , Career Development Center , NCLEX Mini Review , and more ! There are so many events that the Annual Convention has to offer , and I strongly encourage you to have your day planned ahead so you don ’ t miss out . This is an event where passionate nursing individuals can come together and show their ambition for the field .
Another exciting event that will be occurring is , of course , elections for the 2023-2024 NSNA officers ! Running for a national position has been an unforgettable experience for me as well as other board members . I ’ ve had the honor to network with hospitals across the country , win scholarships to support my schooling , and also make life-long nursing companions . Running for national office will truly allow you to find out what you ’ re capable of and will also continue to fuel your fire for nursing . Don ’ t be afraid to seek discomfort and grow into the capable nursing leader you are !
If you are interested in running for national office , it is not too late ! Running from the floor is an amazing opportunity for you to take . NEC is here to assist all candidates to have a successful opportunity .
Here is a helpful checklist for running from the floor BEFORE you get to Annual Convention :
• A request for information about national office
• Complete the official NSNA application that you receive .
• Submit all documents needed .
• Select a campaign manager .
• Select a campaign slogan .
• Design a poster .
• Write and practice a speech .
• Read the NSNA Business Book and Campaign Regulations .
It is important to note that you may not start campaigning until you are placed on the slate during the House of Delegates at Annual Convention and you have been assigned a table in Campaign Headquarters . Once you are on the slate , be sure to review the campaign regulations and the sample questions that may come up in the “ Meet the Candidates ” sessions .
If you have any questions or concerns regarding running for office or campaigning , please feel free to contact the Nominating and Elections Committee . We are more than happy to help and are so excited to see you at the NSNA 71st Annual Convention , April 12-16 ! •
