Long Island University – Brooklyn Pause with Paws is a therapy dog event that the Long Island University Brooklyn Student Nurses Association ( SNA ) facilitated to help fellow classmates — both nursing and non-nursing majors — understand the importance of taking time to assess their mental health and to find ways to relax and destress when things , especially school , gets overwhelming . “ As student nurses , it is our responsibility to help the LIU community find ways to destress and tend to their mental health ,” Kailyn Craigwell , co-senator of the LIU Brooklyn SNA , said . With the Pause with Paws event , the SNA introduced their peers to the idea of utilizing therapy dogs to help them destress and understand the importance of taking care of themselves mentally .
The purpose of the event is for fellow nursing students to understand that in order to provide care for others , they must also care for themselves . There are various ways to accomplish this , and therapy dogs are one of them . •
