Purdue Student Nurses ’ Association Hospitals are not typically known to supply a wide array of haircare supplies , especially those suited for textured hair . Student Nurses Association ( SNA ) members at Purdue University partnered with Peyton Manning Children ’ s Hospital in Indianapolis last semester . Together , they hosted a drive to collect products for African American children and others with textured hair . Items collected and donated included oils , creams , shampoo , conditioner , and more . Purdue ’ s SNA president states , “ The goal of this drive was to promote equity and positive self-image among these children .”
local food pantry , Mission Arlington . In December , they also set up a table for students and faculty to write Christmas cards to troops overseas .
Later , the WCU-Texas SNA held a drive for sweaters and coats to benefit a Dallas women ’ s shelter . Using their propensity toward compassion and passion to give back , WCU-Texas nursing students were able to assist their community while bringing their entire campus closer together . To attest to their success , their SNA gained more than 20 new members . The chapter plans to host eight ( and possibly more ) events in the Spring .
Nursing students at Purdue also handwrote holiday cards and delivered them to the residents of a local nursing home . The Purdue SNA plans on hosting another drive in the spring , collecting toys for Riley Children ’ s Hospital . Their chapter seems to be doing a fantastic job planning events that consider the needs of vulnerable populations .
West Coast University-Texas Student Nurses ’ Association This past fall , West Coast University-Texas was able to return to in-person classes . Without missing a beat , members of the university ’ s SNA delved right back into their many philanthropic events . They began the semester by raising over $ 200 for their Dallas Autism Speaks walk . Donors were eligible to receive a t-shirt from a company employing people with autism .
Over the course of one week in November and December , SNA members held a food drive and encouraged all WCU-Texas students to donate their leftover canned goods from Thanksgiving . They ended up donating over 300 non-perishable food items to their
North Carolina Association of Nursing Students at Piedmont Community College During last year ’ s holiday season , students at Piedmont Community College ( PCC ) participated in a tree decorating contest hosted by the College ’ s Student Government Association . This event created a fun and relaxed environment for different departments , programs , and student organizations to interact .
Throughout the fall 2021 semester , PCC ’ s SNA collected items for a community member who had a tragic house fire , raised money for the Hurricane Relief Fund , and collected shoe boxes filled with Christmas gifts to send overseas to children in need . Students ended the semester with a food drive , during which they collected more than 3,500 servings of food , which was then donated to the local Christian Help Center . This doubled the collection from last year ’ s food drive . PCC ’ s SNA had a great start to the school year , and they plan to continue to serve the community in 2022 and beyond . n
