Today , Dr . Gomberg ’ s career has led her to serve in a variety of positions such as Nurse Manager , Clinical Specialist , and Director at various hospitals and healthcare organizations in Pennsylvania . Most recently she served as the chief executive of the City of Philadelphia ’ s Mass Vaccine Program . As an adjunct professor at Villanova University Fitzpatrick College of Nursing , Dr . Gomberg she shares her expertise and leadership skills teaching the next generation of nurses . The FNSNA is truly grateful for her vision and continued support of nursing students .

Major General George A . Alexander brings a unique perspective to the FNSNA Board of Trustees . For almost 45 years , he has dedicated himself to the practice of medicine and to the service of his country .
In 1973 , he graduated from the pre-med program at Columbia University in New York and continued his medical studies at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington D . C ., earning his degree in 1977 . Shortly after , he joined the Army National Guard , paving the way for an illustrious and highly decorated military career serving as a general medical officer , brigade George Alexander flight surgeon and hospital commander in various combat hospitals across the nation . Of note is his time spent working in the Office of Homeland Security at the White House under President George W . Bush . He drafted key legislation and guided Congress to approve the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 .
Although retired from active military service , Major General Alexander still maintains his connection to the military as a civilian . His work has afforded him the opportunity to contribute to future leadership development within the US Army . His expertise , diverse experiences , and vision broadens the reach of the FNSNA beyond the nursing profession to assist in developing future nurse leaders . He is poised to make a significant contribution to the FNSNA and to the future of the nursing profession .
Ms . Barbara Ward ’ s career demonstrates a true passion for nursing and providing quality care to all . Upon earning her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1971 from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University , she joined the United States Air Force Nurse Corps . She served as a staff nurse from 1972 to 1974 at Scott Air Force Base Medical Center in Illinois , providing care to wounded soldiers returning stateside after having served in the Vietnam War . In 1986 , Ms . Ward earned her master ’ s degree in Public Administration , Healthcare Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco , California .

As a professional nurse , Ms . Ward has had the opportunity for career advancement and mobility , while working as an independent medical-legal nurse consultant , aiding attorneys in medical malpractice , worker compensation and personal injury cases . Now retired , Ms . Ward continues to give back to the nursing profession by mentoring future nurses while teaching healthcare and business at both the undergraduate and graduate levels . Her experience in education , practice and leadership brings a unique perspective to the FNSNA Board of Trustees that will truly support the mission of the organization .
The FNSNA is delighted to welcome these leaders to the Board of Trustees and look forward to the work ahead . As the FNSNA continues its fundraising efforts to support the future of the nursing profession , we invite their discernment and wisdom as the organization continues to navigate rapid changes in the economy and healthcare in a post pandemic world . n
