Nominating and Elections Committee
Akins
Tayler Akins NEC Chair , Western Election Area Representative Truckee Meadows Community College Reno , NV necwest @ nsnainc . org
Greetings fellow NSNA members ! My name is Tayler and I am honored and humbled to be serving as the Nominating and Elections Committee chair and western election area representative . This is something I never pictured myself doing a year ago and am excited to see where it takes me and who it introduces me too . I look forward to upholding the NEC mission of seeking out , encouraging , and assisting the most qualified members of NSNA to run for positions at the national level .
A little about myself to help make me seem less of a stranger . I am in my final semester of nursing school at Truckee Meadows community college in the biggest little city of Reno , Nevada . I also have the honor of serving as the Vice President of my school ’ s local SNA chapter . Covid-19 has made events difficult but it has been a learning experience to say the least .
I am originally from a small town in Northern California where I met my current boyfriend of 4.5 years who now lives with me and my cat Pepper . I have already received an Associates Degree in Art with an interdisciplinary degree in math and science . I probably have enough credits for another one if I really wanted to , but I think I will wait until December for my ADN . Two associates is enough for me ! I plan on continuing my education to something higher however . I enjoy to many hobbies to be proficient in any of them , but it helps me from getting bored of one or the other .
I enjoy meeting new people and learning new things which is why I think I was interested in this amazing honor of an NSNA position . Already I have met so many new people from all over the United States and I cannot wait to meet more of you at the now virtual MidYear Conference in November . Nursing school doesn ’ t just have to be about studying until your eyes bleed , but it can also be about new opportunities and experiences . Serving NSNA can be empowering and help one discover their potential at a nurse leader . Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding running for office . I look forward to hearing from you , and I wish you all an exciting and adventurous semester !
