Hello esteemed NSNA members ! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to serve you as a director on the 2021-2022 NSNA Board of Directors ! This term , I will chair the Convention Planning Committee and I will also sit as a member on the Population & Global Health Committee and Image of Nursing Committee .
I am an upcoming sophomore in the Christine E . Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton , FL . During my first year in nursing school , I became the freshman class representative in my school SNA chapter , and I also attended the FNSA State Convention to continue gaining exposure to the wonderful profession of nursing and what it has to offer . This coming school year I will be serving as the Community Health & Outreach Chair of my chapter in addition to serving you all in NSNA !
This year , my goal as the Convention Planning Committee Chair is to establish tactile sessions at the Annual Convention in order give nursing students exposure to the real-life equipment that they will encounter outside of the classroom in their respective health care settings . This could include specialized equipment such as ventilators , swan-catheters , or balloon pumps or even basic manikins to train individuals in CPR . The goal is to gain exposure and comfort in handling such equipment to promote a smooth transition into the workforce .
Another goal that I have for this year , is to include informational sessions regarding the different communities and populations that are regularly treated in healthcare settings but that often fall through the cracks . Groups may include the deaf and hard of hearing , homeless , LGTBQ +, women , ethnical / religious minorities , and many others .
Those are two of the main goals that I have for the Convention Planning Committee this year , but I would also like to help nursing students continue to shape their professional identity in nursing through informational sessions at MidYear Conference and Annual Convention .
If you have any questions , feel free to reach me via email at directors @ nsnainc . org I would be more than happy to respond and I look forward to our future communication . Thank you for your commitment to NSNA and to the nursing profession ! You are highly valued and appreciated . I hope to see you all soon !
Hello fellow NSNA members ! It is an honor to serve on the NSNA Board of Directors this year as the chair of the Membership Committee . An honor I would not have if it were not for each one of you who elected me to the position . I am beyond grateful , and I hope to make you proud . Although the 2021 Annual Convention was a bit different for all of us , I truly enjoyed speaking with those who attended and hearing what you envision for NSNA moving forward . The Membership Committee is such an incredible committee because I feel it provides me with the opportunity to work closely with all of you . I can connect with members on a more personal level to make NSNA what YOU want it to be !
A little about me . . . this fall I am a sophomore nursing student at The Pennsylvania State University , University Park . Currently I am working on four minors in English , Psychology , Child Maltreatment and Advocacy Studies , and Deafness and Hearing Studies , as well as a certificate in Nursing Forensics . My goal is to earn each of these in addition to my BSN during my four years at Penn State . While I am young to be on the board , I feel that my expansive and extensive education lends me some wisdom , experience , and empathy for what nursing students at all levels are facing throughout their educational careers and journeys ! This year will also be my first time serving on Penn State ’ s Student Nurses ’ Association Board of Directors . As for my goals after graduation , I hope to obtain my Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner ( SANE ) certification , and work in the emergency room of a children ’ s hospital .
My goals for the Membership Committee are recruiting new members , especially those who are just starting on their nursing pathway , refocusing on current members and what they would like to reap from their time with NSNA , listening to the membership in terms of areas for improvement to maintain members , and finally , ensuring that each individual knows what their membership entails . Essentially , what comes with a NSNA membership and how to make the most of it ! This year , I really want to take a step back and establish a connection between myself , as well as the rest of the board , and you ! Making sure there is two-way communication happening and every member feels like they count and matter is one of my top priorities .
All the committees have a lot of exciting and innovative ideas and events in the works for this year , and I cannot wait until we can share it with all of you ! I hope you are looking forward to another year as well . I know I am ! Please reach out with any questions , comments , or concerns you may have , and let ’ s make this the best year yet !
