Hello fellow NSNA members , another great year awaits ! My name is Shantel Rodriguez and I am honored to serve as your Secretary / Treasurer for 2021-2022 . I am currently a student nurse at the West Coast University School of Nursing ’ s accelerated program in Los Angeles , CA . In addition to my work with NSNA , I am the president of my school ’ s Veterans Organization and a Student Nurse Technician at the Greater Los Angeles Veteran Hospital .
This year will be very exciting for the NSNA and its members ! I am excited to serve on such an inclusive and vibrant Board of Directors . As your Secretary / Treasurer , my objectives and priorities for the next year are to raise awareness of the diversity within professional nursing and our role within the healthcare system . I hope that every nursing student can be involved . Whether it is your local SNA , your state SNA , or NSNA leadership , the benefits and possibilities are priceless in your growth as a nurse and as a leader in the profession .
I will also head the NSNA Finance Committee and serve both the NSNA Executive and the NSNA Image of Nursing Committees . The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending to the Board capital and recurrent budgets , assess investment criteria for the Reserve Portfolio and proposing new products and services for the benefit of the organization ( you , the members !) In addition , we work collaboratively to ensure the validity , stability , and security of the association ’ s financial accounts and records .
To that end , the NSNA website has a wealth of information for state and municipal secretaries and treasurers . I understand finance is not a popular subject , but I am here to make it enjoyable and comprehensible ! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the NSNA , the finance committee , or the position .
Hello NSNA members ! I am so excited to be your Imprint Editor and Image of Nursing chair for this year . I am currently a student nurse at San Diego State University . This summer , I worked as a nurse extern at University of California San Diego , Jacobs Center ’ s incredible Oncology PCU / Palliative care unit . I also worked as a pharmacy technician at CVS Health and as a store associate at In-N- Out Burger .
As Imprint Editor , my goal is to continue to publish articles in Imprint magazine that highlight your stories and our collective interests as nursing students . Imprint is a place to read about our extraordinary members and chapters , receive useful career advice from various authors , hear news from NSNA , and learn about a variety of relevant nursing topics all the way from career development to graduation . We hope that you are ready to read all about how schools are adjusting to life as the pandemic is starting to finally wind down in this fall issue .
All the themes for each issue can be found on the NSNA website under “ Publications ,” and then under the Imprint tab . I hope some of these themes will inspire you to submit articles and with the new online format , it will be easier than ever to share your published articles with the world ! Additionally , you can also nominate a fellow NSNA member to the Up Close column which highlights exceptional nursing students . You can also submit a piece highlighting your state or chapter activities to the Happenings column . We would absolutely love to hear from you guys !
The Image of Nursing Committee ’ s theme for this year is “ Breaking the Glass Door into Nursing .” My challenge to you is to share through your various platforms everything you do as nursing students and student leaders . It is our job as those in nursing to educate the public on what nurses do so they not only can get a better understanding of our profession but see how organizations like the student nurses ’ association benefit our practice and in turn our patients ! Use the Guidelines for Planning and Tips for Social Media Usage found under the Image of Nursing committee page to get started . Please follow the Board of Directors on Facebook under “ NSNA Board of Directors ” and on Instagram under @ nsnabod . Please email me if you need any help , from how to submit an article to Imprint to how to get started on creating a school chapter website or Instagram page . My email is imprinteditor @ nsnainc . org and I look forward to hearing from you guys !
