Portland Community College Student Nurses Association in Oregon This semester , the Student Nurses Association of Portland Community College ( PCC ) focused on advocacy and fundraising within their community . One of their main events included the Portland Community College Big Give Day . This is a fundraiser to support the Nursing Department at the community college . This event was dedicated to the needs of nursing students and faculty during the COVID pandemic . At the end of the event the PCC SNA raised an outstanding $ 1,915 to help their own students . During this unique semester , PCC SNA also encouraged their nursing students to vote in the presidential election in order to show up for healthcare policy and advocate for their future patients .
Indiana University Student Nurses Association in Indianapolis During the stressful conditions of the COVID pandemic , the Student Nurses Association from Indiana University School of Nursing ( IUSON ) provided lots of options for their nursing students to get involved in educating themselves outside of the classroom . One of the many ways that this SNA educated their peers was through a Women ’ s Health Nurse Specialty Panel where they invited nurses from IU health to zoom with the students to discuss recruitment and what it is like to work in women ’ s health . This provided nursing students with an exciting opportunity to pursue women ’ s health as a career while maintaining social distance . Another unique way that the IUSON provided educational resources to their peers was through a patient care technician / assistant Q + A zoom provided by other student nurse volunteers . Becoming a patient care technician / assistant can be a wonderful steppingstone in obtaining hands-on experience and knowledge of what it is to provide patient care . The nursing students at Indiana University have set an amazing example of how to adapt to the new social distancing regulations while still exceeding the expectations of their peers .
The College of New Jersey Student Nurses ’ Association The nursing students at the College of New Jersey succeeded at continuing to give back to their community this semester as well as to their nursing students . The SNA provided a wellness day , “ Thrive Fair ,” where they engaged their student peers in reflecting on their own health and wellness . The main focus of the Thrive Fair was on awareness of common medications that students take such as ibuprofen , acetaminophen , and Adderall . Information was provided to students regarding side effects , use , dose , and warnings to keep them and their peers safe . In order to continue educating their nursing peers , the College of New Jersey SNA held the Fourth Annual “ Got Pink ?” event via zoom in order to educate on breast cancer awareness , myths / facts , resources , and self-breast examinations . This received an amazing response from nursing students involved and each year this event brings more students who are eager to advocate for this patient population . Among their COVID safe volunteer activities , the SNA provided students with an opportunity to do a blood drive and a diaper drive to continue to support the community through the COVID outbreak . n
