Spotlight on Marshall Muehlbauer
Step inside Marshall ’ s classroom and you will find a diligent medical-surgical nursing tutor breezing through hundreds of NCLEX problems with his fellow peers . Step inside Marshall ’ s world and you will also find a senior , work-study assistant for the Martin-Herold College of Nursing and Health at Mount Mercy University , Cedar Rapids , Iowa . Tomorrow , if you would peek inside Marshall ’ s world , you would find a collaborative nurse educator , a bedside nurse , and a hopeful clinical instructor . What began as a mere campus job soon turned into an unbreakable commitment and formative bond to the field of nursing .
Marshall Muehlbauer , president of both the Iowa Association of Nursing Students ( IANS ) and Student Nurse Organization ( SNO ) at Mount Mercy , did not always have the ghastly goal of becoming a clinical nurse leader . You may even be slightly stunned . “ If you asked me when I was 15 where I would be in 10 years , this is far from it . Nursing is not the journey I had planned for myself , but I am so glad to be on this adventure ,” Marshall explains . “ I always joke that I really wanted to be an attorney , but went to the wrong class . And here I am .” Though his notion to choose to become a nurse may have been accidental , taking the wrong turn may have been the right move after all . Sure , the hundreds of hours assisting others with practice NCLEX problems factored into his route ; however , it was for the nurses themselves , the influential faculty , that have steered him in this direction .
