I hope most of you attended the NSNA Virtual 69th Annual Convention and enjoyed all the wonderful activities and sessions offered . As the school year comes to an end , I wanted to remind you why we entered this profession . As nursing students , we are passionate about helping people , creating change , and advocating for those around us . Our passion for these basic principles has given us our purpose : nursing . Through nursing , we can turn our passions into concrete goals . Hence , I am happy to end my term as the 2020-2021 Imprint Editor with this Imprint issue : “ Passion = Purpose .”
The best nurses are those who lead with passion . Many nurses have contributed to our profession without ever being recognized . On page 21 , Ygnacia Rivas writes about the unsung nursing hero — Viola Elizabeth Garcia . Furthermore , on page 17 , Veronica Bucher shares the history of black nurses who were heroes in WW2 . We hope you are inspired by the incredible stories of these unsung heroes ! And congratulations to both authors for winning the 2021 NSNA / American Association for the History of Nursing Essay Contest .
Nursing school can be quite a bit challenging as you all know . If you ’ re struggling academically , the article on page 30 is for you . “ Only the Studious Survive ” shares key points about study habits and time management . To all my fellow graduates , we survived nursing school , but how about surviving the real world ? On page 27 , Marianne Jeffreys gives us “ Your Enhanced Success ( YES ): A-to-Z Tips .” This article provides several helpful tips for us to thrive and succeed !
There are so many types of nursing that will allow you to fulfill your passions and dreams . On page 35 , read all about the different types of emergency nursing . From flight nursing to travel nursing , maybe one of these careers is for you ! Aside from career paths , there are several issues that nurses are passionate about . On page 32 , Janice Hawkins talks about her passion for promoting childhood vaccines . Lastly , see page 44 and read why Jennifer Murray chose nursing . Her story is a relatable piece about why nursing is more than just a profession , but a calling .
I cannot believe this is my final issue of Imprint serving as the 2020-2021 Imprint Editor . Thank you all for taking this incredible journey with me . It has been an honor to share the stories and ideas with you all throughout this past year . From surviving the pandemic to tackling concerns about of injustice , the issues published were worth the read . Although my time as Imprint Editor is over , I hope you all continue to thrive and succeed in your nursing careers and remember that your voice should always be heard .
