With this generation feeling more comfortable using technology , it may make more sense to use technology for education purposes as well . The ever-evolving nature of the internet makes it easy and fast to use and to reference quickly ; also , there are countless applications and electronic books available to find information quickly and to test knowledge and skills to help aid the studying process ( Morgulis et al ., 2012 ).
Some of the most common study practices that have been proven effective include pre-testing , spaced practice , self-quizzing , paraphrasing , and reflecting . Research has shown that pre-testing improves post-test results more than spending the same amount of time studying ( Kusoom & Charuwanno , 2017 ). Answering questions before studying the material in workbooks or online applications , even if you get them wrong , helps to determine the important information to study when reading the material . Spacing out study time and practice time may allow the student to possess the ability to process the information better and retain more knowledge .
However , when nursing students try to cram the night before an exam in a hurried manner , it may lead to negative academic performance outcomes . Speed reading and cramming the day before an exam could possibly lead to clutter of information and lack of comprehension of the studied material . Participating in active retrieval learning means making test questions for yourself as you learn a new concept ; when doing this , it is important to think about the types of questions you might be asked on a quiz to prepare yourself for an exam ( Nurse . org , 2019 ).

It can be easy to skim through and miss half of the words when reading long chapters in textbooks and other class material . Reading in small sections and summarizing it simplifies the material and can make it easier to understand and retain the information . Summarizing and paraphrasing the information can help you better understand and apply the content to the clinical setting ( Kusoom & Charuwanno , 2017 ). Studying in a way that best suits you and that helps you retain knowledge the best could help you to be more effective and be more successful on tests and clinical or classroom scenarios .

Nursing school is full of trials and defeating circumstances . One of the biggest trials may be trying to find a way to study that proves efficient on tests . Effectively studying during nursing school may allow for you to stress less and have more retained knowledge when it comes to test time . Therefore , effective studying may allow nursing students to exceed in the classroom setting as well as at their career by having sufficient knowledge to do the job they need to do . n
