Nominating and Elections Committee
Katie Perera Eastern Representative 2020-2021 Nominating and Elections Committee NECwest @ nsnainc . org
Hello , fellow NSNA members ! My name is Katie Perera , and I am the Eastern Election
Area Representative for the Nominating and Elections Committee ( NEC ). I am happy
I got to meet and chat virtually with many of you at the NSNA Virtual 38th MidYear Conference . I hope for more opportunities to help aid you through the journey of running for an NSNA leadership position !
NSNA is an organization that allows nursing students to voice changes we believe need to be made in healthcare . We are not only the future of nursing , we are also the future leaders of nursing ! This is why I would love to see enthusiastic and passionate individuals run for an NSNA leadership position . The experience of running for the NSNA national office is genuinely unforgettable . Running to be a leader of this organization has allowed me to show a broader audience who I am as a leader . I have connected with nursing students all over the nation through the Summer Leadership Conference , Imprint magazine , and the first NSNA School Presidents ’ Monthly Forum .
I strongly encourage you to run for national office for the 2021-2022 academic year . No matter the number of your previous experiences , ranging anywhere from an enthusiastic nursing student or a leader in your state chapter , YOU have the potential to become a leader for NSNA .
Have you ever thought about possibly running for a position on the NSNA Board of Directors or the NEC ? If you answered yes , I would encourage you to seek out additional information through your NEC representative . It would be to your advantage to begin this conversation earlier rather than later to ensure an ample amount of time to answer any questions throughout the process .
Pre-slating is the submission and acceptance of the official NSNA Application for National Office by February 19 , 2021 , at 5 pm EST . If an NSNA member chooses to , they may be nominated from the floor during the NSNA House of Delegates meetings at the NSNA 69th Annual Convention . However , it is strongly recommended to pre-slate as this comes with many benefits . As a pre-slated candidate , your name will be published on the NSNA official slate before the virtual 69th Annual Convention , April 5-10 , 2021 . This will allow you to start campaigning as soon as the slate is officially announced .
There is a collection of campaign materials that you will need to assemble before the convention . By pre-slating , you will have additional time to formulate your ideas for slogans , poster designs , and other additional campaign material that you may want to distribute to delegates at the NSNA Annual Convention . By pre-slating , you will acquire the NSNA official campaign guidelines and sample candidate questions . These questions may be asked during “ Meet the Candidates ” sessions or during your speech to NSNA voting delegates . Organizing a campaign with extra time is very advantageous . It may take time to find a campaign manager , write and practice a speech ,
