FESTIVALS AND EVENTS America is celebrating our 250th Anniversary this year and Freedom Festival‘ 26 held on July 4th was a great event. There is a full story about it in this magazine so I won’ t go into detail. Hayli has written an excellent article and I know you will enjoy it. However, I did want to say the recognition ceremony honoring Medics, Corpsmen, Medical Officers, and Nurses was special. We honored four attendees: Spc( Combat Medic) Robert Anders, USAF; Colonel( Dr.) Lisa Keep US Army; 1st Lt( Nurse, RN) Donna Branch, USAF; Specialist( Combat Medic) Richard“ Alex” Musgrove, Florida Army National Guard( deployed); HM3( Corpsman E-4) Shelby Rath, USN; and HM3( Corpsman E-4) Philip Aiken, USN. The addition of the parade was a big hit, and finally the fireworks display was outstanding. I want to thank all those who gave their time and energy to make it very special this year.
The 41st annual Christmas on the Square presented by the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce was a great success, as always. And though the Wildflower Festival opened with a thunder storm vendors and attendees enjoyed the outing.
I attended the annual Juneteenth celebration at the
Coliseum. It was a great event and well attended. I issued a proclamation recognizing the day and local citizens received the following awards: The Samuel Beasley Award Recipient went Mr. Rashard D. Fleming and the Ernest Mayhue Award went to Dr. Tameka Hobbs, who also received the Mayor’ s Special Recognition.
Finally, W. B. Howland celebrated their 100th year of doing business in Suwannee County on March 28 of this year. It was a great day with good food, music, giveaways and recognitions and thanksgiving. I issued a proclamation for the special day and recognitions for Lyn Fletcher and Bill Howland and special recognition of the“ First Lady” of Howlands, Mrs. Barbara Wilson Howland.
