Fourth Annual“ Get Your Green On” Tournament
For the past five years, the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce has hosted its annual Get Your Green On Golf Tournament, a St. Patrick’ s Day tradition that serves as one of the chamber’ s signature fundraisers. Organized by chamber board member Marshall Beck, head of maintenance for Busy Bee, the tournament has continued to grow each year.
Held March 19 at The Country Club at Lake City, this year’ s event welcomed 74 golfers for a full day on the course. Before tee-off, participants received a welcome goodie bag and enjoyed lunch, then headed out to an 18-hole course with refreshments, games and surprises waiting along the way. Every third hole featured something different, from bratwurst, hot dogs, peanuts and a hog on a log to ice cream, a daiquiri stand and even a golf ball launching machine.
The festivities continued after the final putt with a prime rib dinner, awards ceremony and silent auction featuring about 150 items, including bicycles, golf bags, coolers, chairs and more.
While many golfers return year after year, Beck hopes even more people will join the fun as the tournament continues to grow.
“ If they would just come one time and play in this tournament, I think they would see that they want to be involved every year,” Beck said.
