Development office ’ s most recent undertaking was putting grants toward a new wastewater plant and completing the installation of water and wastewater distribution systems that run from 136 and the I-75 interchange all the way around to the I-10 interchange , which makes those areas ready for development .

“ In Economic Development we work on bringing manufacturing and industrial facilities to town because we want really good paying jobs , but we also work on bringing other things , you know , that might be retail , that might be a restaurant , that might be a hotel , that might be a Starbucks . So we work on those types of projects too ,” said Jimmy Norris , who is the Economic Development Director with the Suwannee County Economic Development office .
“ There are multiple pieces to economic development ,” he added . “ When we bring the jobs , they have to have a place to go shopping , they have to have a place to eat , and they have to have a place to live . We ’ ve got to give them good roads to drive up and down . So we have to consider that and then also all of the services that we provide to them . So we work in multiple areas across the board .”
In that regard , some of the county ’ s most recent additions include a new Tractor Supply and AutoZone in Branford , as well as a new 70-million-dollar expansion at Binderholz , Popeye ’ s , Crystal Kubota dealership , and a new Walt ’ s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Live Oak with announcements of a T-Mobile , Firehouse Subs and Starbucks next on the list to join that lineup .
Whether it ’ s creating new jobs ; bringing in new businesses ; developing apartments and laying the groundwork for more retail and restaurant options through the Economic Development office , or encouraging tourism , which keeps taxes for locals down ; promoting all the good qualities of Suwannee County and giving back to the community through event sponsorships with the Tourist Development office ; both organizations go hand in hand to help Suwannee County continue to grow and prosper .
“ We ’ re very proud of what we do here . We have come a long , long way ,” Norris said .
