100 barn quilts displayed in Suwannee County – most of which can be seen on businesses and public property . Of course , since the pandemic made member gatherings more difficult and the task of constructing and installing large wooden blocks has become more of a challenge for the group ’ s aging members , expanding the trail any further will require a new crowd of volunteers .

“ We ’ ve always planned at some point in time just to have a workshop and teach people how to do it so they could do it on their own ,” Jones said .

Of course , until a space becomes available to host such workshops , organizing them has been nearly impossible . In addition to seeking others to join the movement , creating a brochure and trail map depicting the locations of the community barn quilts is another feat that ’ s been derailed over the last few years .

While waiting for a brochure to come to fruition , Live Oak residents and visitors alike can experience a colorful scavenger hunt discovering beautiful quilt blocks throughout the city crafted by artistic volunteers like Jones and many others – some of whom have offered their time and expertise since the beginning including Chris Flanagan , Suzanne Marcil , Susan Bell , Anda Chance and Glinda Pennock .
