The cross and flag kits , which cost a one-time fee of $ 80 and are embellished with the veteran ’ s name and branch of service , are on display twice a year – a week before and a week after Memorial Day and Veterans Day – and can be purchased to represent either a living or deceased veteran in the community .
“ I ’ m proud to be an American , I ’ m proud of our freedoms , my brother serves in the military still , I have a lot of friends that are veterans and I think that any time that I can be part of something to give thanks to that group of men and women that ’ s what I want to do ,” Williams said .
Due to Covid restrictions and product delays last year , Memorial Day 2022 was the first time the patriotic markers made their debut along Highway 129 South from 11th Street down to Pinewood Drive . A total of 340 cross and flag sets were on display with an additional 200 kits already ordered for Veterans Day in November .
“ It ’ s one of the most important projects I ’ ve ever been involved with . I think it was a beautiful sight , it was breathtaking if you went down there and it ’ s just , for us to give appreciation back twice a year to the men and women that served this country ,” Williams said .
