When the griddle starts to cool off , it ’ s time to watch the parade . This year ’ s theme was “ Hometown USA ,” and featured Americana floats and vehicles decorated in red white and blue . While the pancake breakfast and parade are two irreplaceable components of the festival , they ’ re just the beginning .
This year ’ s event featured over 100 vendors selling unique arts and crafts items like painted gourd birdhouses , planters and feeders ; handmade potholders , bag holders and kitchen towels as well as clothing , jewelry and more . It also encompassed a car show , children ’ s games , talent contests , a bake-off and , keeping with tradition , provided musical entertainment like performances by the Gateway City Big Band .
Of course , a trip to the festival isn ’ t complete without experiencing a taste of Wellborn . In addition to local growers selling blueberry plants and baskets of pre-plucked berries , The Country Store is home base for all things blueberry . From pies and cobblers to jams and jellies or syrups and honey , a stop at The Country Store can help resolve any blueberry craving . Nevertheless , for those wanting more , food vendors offer other blueberry creations like specialty bread and homemade blueberry cheesecake ice cream .
As the saying goes , all good things must come to an end , and at 4 pm , the blueberry festival did just that . If you missed this year ’ s event , don ’ t worry because the countdown has already begun for the 28th celebration .
