DAVLATBIBI ORZUEVA
For Davlatbibi Orzueva, a 66-year-old matriarch from the village of Yazgulom in Vanj district, Tajikistan, personal resilience and dedication to her family propelled her to seek new opportunities to help improve their financial circumstances. Having spent many years canning fruits and vegetables for her household, Davlatbibi had become something of an expert in the food preservation process.
In 2023, her life changed when she attended a Business Plan development training sponsored by CAI. Brimming with new knowledge afterward, she turned her canning passion into a small business, producing jams and savory goods to sell. While her income is modest, her entrepreneurial spirit has inspired others in her village. With gratitude for CAI’ s support, Davlatbibi is determined to grow her business and create economic opportunities for other women, dreaming of a future where they can thrive and flourish together.

SPECIAL HIGHLIGHT: PRESCHOOL # 2
Preschool No. 2, the only preschool in the mountain town of Barushan, Tajikistan, was originally built in 1962. Located in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast( GBAO), a remote, impoverished, and marginalized region of the country situated among the Pamir Mountain range, the school was constructed with sub-standard materials, and the building quickly fell into disrepair.
Walls and ceilings were sagging in places, creating a dangerous learning environment in this earthquake-prone area. Although teachers were doing their best, they lacked the facilities, training, visual aids, and toys to support an educational process that would allow these young children to fulfill their potential as students.
In 2020, CAI stepped in to help, and plans for a new school were laid. Four years later, thanks to the dedicated support of many donors, the doors of the brand-new Preschool # 2 were opened to the community during a formal ribboncutting ceremony. CAI hosted a virtual event on May 1, 2024, to celebrate the project’ s completion and take our generous supporters through a video tour of the finished school.
Heartfelt thanks to each and every donor who contributed to the P2 building fund! Your gift will change the lives of children in Barushan for decades to come!
