CHALLENGES

Before the pandemic , Pakistan had the second highest number of out-of-school children in the world – 22.8 million girls and boys . When the pandemic hit and schools were closed , education professionals were worried that many more children , especially girls , would join their peers and never return to classrooms . Our objective was to prevent that from happening .

SUCCESSES

In response to COVID-related school closures , educational radio programs were broadcast or shared online with an estimated 200,000 people . The programs prevented students in lockdown from falling behind in their studies . They also provided out-of-school children with access to education for the first time ever . The CAI-supported programs were so effective that they ’ re now being broadcast throughout Pakistan , educating millions of people .
