For the first time , Academic , Career Technical , Counseling , and Reentry staff all gathered for a landmark conference on April 25-27 in Columbus , Ga , focused on learning together to effectively prepare offenders to become successful returning citizens through ‘ Exploring New Frontiers ’!
Over the last two years , Corrections staff have explored many new frontiers . GDC teachers have traversed distance learning by broadcasting live synchronous sessions into housing units , created a shared resources page , expanded special education services and resources , initiated paper-based GED testing , and exponentially increased professional learning opportunities through Tuesday Toolbox training , virtual faculty meetings , and a newly created School Improvement Team !
GDC counselors have enhanced counseling services through the reentry folder and release documentation , meaningful contacts , DAP training , A & O offender-led programs , and the RISE mentoring process . The reentry process has also been strengthened through “ Down the Pike ” videos and offender interviews and hiring before release . Chaplains and volunteer services have delved into an electronic process for special religious requests and an online volunteer renewal process .
