Officer Brinkley retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections with 30 years , eight months , and 21 days of service , having worked at Georgia State Prison ( SP ) and Smith SP . She then came back as a part-time correctional officer at Smith SP .
In April 2021 , Officer Brinkley was performing her job duties at the front entrance of Smith SP . As she searched a staff member ’ s bag , she discovered a large amount of currency in the bag . This contraband would have entered the institution if not for Officer Brinkley ’ s vigilance in following established security protocol . As a result of this contraband discovery , an investigation revealed several offenders had large amounts of contraband in their cells .
Officer Brinkley has an outstanding work ethic and puts all other business aside to assist the facility in whatever way possible . With her years of service , she is a mentor to newer staff , and we appreciate the valuable member of Smith SP who consistently meets and exceeds all expectations .
